How To Start A Sigma Nu Tau Chapter at Your School
- Determine if your school meets the eligibility requirements:
- Do you offer a bachelor’s, master’s or Ph.D.program with a major, minor or other program of study that substantively includes the major knowledge, skills, and competencies required of an entrepreneur?
- Is your school accredited by the appropriate regional accrediting body?
- Determine if your school will support a Sigma Nu Tau chapter: Complete the Petition to Establish a Collegiate Chapter form
- Obtain a Letter of Endorsement from your dean, vice president for academic affairs, president, or chancellor.
- Identify a Faculty Advisor and a Faculty Secretary.
- Identify a minimum of 4 prospective student members.
- Have your Faculty Advisor, Faculty Secretary submit an individual online form.
- Have your students fill out the Student Membership Application and turn it in to the Faculty Advisor. (If the faculty advisor has pre-determined eligibility, this is not required).
- Complete the Membership Application Cover Spreadsheet
- You will be invoiced $300 + student and faculty membership fees as soon as your charter application is approved.

Eligibility Requirements for Membership
For All Student Members:
- Must possess honor, integrity, and a strong entrepreneurial spirit.
- Must be taking a bachelor’s, master’s or Ph.D. program with a major, minor or other program of study that substantively includes the major knowledge areas, skills, and competencies required of an entrepreneur.
- For Undergraduate Students:
- Must have earned at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA.
- Must have junior class standing or higher.
- For Graduate Students:
- Must have earned at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA.
- Must have completed at least 50% of graduate coursework.
For Faculty/Staff Members:
- Faculty or Staff members who will serve as the Faculty Advisor and Faculty Secretary should submit their membership applications with the “Petition to Establish a collegiate Chapter” form.
- Who have enhanced the study of entrepreneurship.
For Entrepreneur Members:
- Entrepreneurs who have demonstrated a strong entrepreneurial spirit and
- Who are models of principled entrepreneurship.
For Honorary Members:
- Persons who have achieved distinction in their chosen profession or
- Persons who have rendered unusually significant service through their leadership in significant causes.
How to Apply for Membership
Membership is only available through a chartered Sigma Nu Tau chapter at a U.S. college or university. The following applications must be completed and submitted to your local chapter. (Applications are not accepted directly from applicants and must be submitted by your school’s chapter.)
Membership Application Cover Sheet to be submitted with all Membership Applications:
For Student Members:
- Students must submit the following form to the faculty advisor of their chapter, and the faculty advisor must include their name on the Membership Application Cover Spreadsheet. If the faculty advisor has pre-determined eligibility, this form is not required.
- Student Membership Application
For Faculty/Staff Members:
- Faculty/Staff Membership Application.
- Up to 4 faculty/staff members may be selected for membership in the first year. Up to 2 faculty/staff members may be selected in succeeding years.
- A minimum of 2 faculty/staff members is required for new chapters.
- Faculty advisors must also list the faculty member’s name on the Membership Application Cover Spreadsheet
For Entrepreneur Members:
- Entrepreneur Member Application
- May be completed by the individual – or in nomination of an individual by a current member of Sigma Nu Tau.
- Up to 4 entrepreneurs may be selected for membership in an academic year.
- Faculty advisors must also list the entrepreneur member’s name on the Membership Application Cover Spreadsheet
For Honorary Members:
- Honorary Member Application
- May be completed by the individual – or in nomination of an individual by a current member of Sigma Nu Tau
- Up to 2 Honorary Members may be selected for membership in an academic year.
- Faculty advisors must also list the honorary member’s name on the Membership Application Cover Spreadsheet
