Each year, the MWE SIG proudly recognizes members who have demonstrated excellence in advancing minority and women’s entrepreneurship through research, education, practice, and leadership. These awards honor the dedication, innovation, and service of our community and highlight the individuals whose work strengthens our
field.

General Requirements (applies to all awards)

  • Must be a current MWE SIG member in good standing
  • Must be active in research, practice, teaching, mentorship, or programming related to minority and women’s entrepreneurship
  • Nominations and self-nominations are accepted
  • All nominations should include supporting evidence that demonstrates how the
    nominee meets the award criteria

Award Categories & Criteria

Deadline to submit nominations for this award is November 15 at 11:59PM Pacific Time

Recognizes outstanding higher education faculty who have demonstrated innovation, creativity, and commitment in teaching and advancing minority and women’s entrepreneurship. This award highlights educators who design transformative learning experiences that inspire the next generation of diverse entrepreneurs.

Criteria:

  • Evidence of innovative teaching practices (curriculum design, experiential learning, or new pedagogical models)
  • Demonstrated impact on minority and/or women entrepreneurs or students pursuing entrepreneurship
  • Contributions that advance inclusivity and access in entrepreneurship education

Deadline to submit nominations for this award is November 15 at 11:59PM Pacific Time

Honors an emerging scholar or educator within five years of earning a doctorate who has shown early success in minority and women entrepreneurship research and teaching. This award celebrates rising voices shaping the field’s future.

Criteria:

  • Earned a doctorate within the past five years
  • Evidence of early contributions in research and/or teaching in MWE
  • Demonstrated potential for significant future impact in the field

Celebrates exceptional practitioners making a lasting impact through direct work, programs, or initiatives that empower minority and/or women entrepreneurs. This award recognizes applied leadership in advancing equitable entrepreneurship ecosystems.

Criteria:

  • Demonstrated measurable impact on women and/or minority entrepreneurs through programs, mentorship, policy, or community engagement
  • Evidence of innovation, scalability, or sustainability in practice
  • Strong record of advocacy for inclusive entrepreneurship

Recognizes a scholar whose research, teaching, and thought leadership have had a significant, measurable impact on advancing knowledge and practice in minority and women’s entrepreneurship.

Criteria:

  • Established track record of research with demonstrated influence on the field
    and/or policy
  • Contributions to bridging scholarship and practice
  • Evidence of mentorship, thought leadership, or shaping discourse in MWE

Honors an individual who has provided exceptional mentorship to students, scholars, or practitioners in minority and women’s entrepreneurship. This award recognizes those who invest time, energy, and guidance to empower others in their entrepreneurial journey.

Criteria:

  • Evidence of sustained mentorship relationships (students, faculty, or
    practitioners)
  • Demonstrated outcomes from mentorship (career advancement, publications,
    ventures launched, etc.)
  • Commitment to building a supportive and inclusive MWE community

Celebrates a member whose leadership, service, and dedication have been instrumental in advancing the MWE SIG. This award honors individuals who have played a pivotal role in strengthening the community through mentorship, guidance, and consistent contributions that leave a lasting impact on the SIG and its members.

Criteria:

  • Demonstrated history of mentorship within the SIG (supporting scholars,
    practitioners, and members)
  • Evidence of leadership and service that has advanced the mission, visibility, and
    impact of the SIG
  • Recognized as a guiding presence in building and sustaining the MWE
    community
  • Contributions reflect a commitment to progressing the SIG and empowering
    future generations
