This is a paid, full-time opportunity and the location is flexible. Chief Executive Officer

United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE)


The United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE) is America’s premier learning community for advancing entrepreneurship education through bold teaching, research, and experiential learning. We are the “go-to” source for entrepreneurship educators. 


Our Annual Conference is the nation’s top source for learning with visionaries. Leveraging our diverse network, composed of over 800 university researchers, professors, program directors, and more, our impactful programming advances an inclusive community of the most innovative interdisciplinary teaching, research, and practitioners. 




We seek a visionary thinker and doer to lead our powerful, inclusive community in its next phase of success. The new Chief Executive Officer will bring optimism, creativity, and critical thinking to lead our team’s internal operations and external partnerships and programs. Ensuring stability in the present and ongoing success in the future, the new CEO has the opportunity to grow the leadership team, advance programming and member value, and share the USASBE story to members, partners, and influencers. Candidates with a history of leading organizations through significant growth, including securing new funding for innovative programming are encouraged to apply. 


The CEO will guide and implement USASBE’s strategic vision and values, as well as its annual goals and objectives. Working with the Board of Directors, the CEO will provide direction and leadership across all areas of the organization, from marketing and financial management to programming and operations. 




Strategic Leadership 

·     Demonstrate visionary thinking and an understanding of how to set, achieve, and exceed key performance indicators  

·     Partner closely with the Board of Directors to develop and implement new strategies and opportunities to further the mission of the organization

External Relations

·     Cultivate opportunities to raise visibility and profile of our brand, network, and programs 

·     Position USASBE as a thought leader through partnerships and alliances 

·     Serve as a visible and effective spokesperson and storyteller 

·     Build and grow strategic alliances advancing entrepreneurship education

·     Amplify our value proposition to members through communications plans 


Team Management 

·     Recruit, hire, and onboard additional members of leadership team 

·     Create and implement team norms that foster a collaborative culture 

·     Support a culture of learning, development, and feedback 

·     Provide direction, motivation, and coaching to ensure all staff thrive 

·     Facilitate collaborative relationships among staff to support mission


Financial and Operational Excellence

·     Lead organizational-level financial plans, including annual budget process

·     Maintain strict oversight of organizational budget to maximize fiscal integrity and a positive financial position

·     Provide accountability and strategic management for all financial matters 

·     Manage development and delivery of all finance reporting to the Board to ensure fiscal integrity and organizational policies.

·     Oversee annual audit activities, including partnering with Board

·     Ensure excellence in program quality and delivery

·     Guide and implement all operational policies 


Board Relations

·     Partner with Board members to set annual and multi-year goals and objectives across membership, marketing and fundraising, operations, programming, staff professional development, and financial management

·     Facilitate effective Board communication on progress against all goals 

·     Identify Board learning opportunities to model a culture of learning and raise organizational acumen




·     5+ years of increasing responsibility in nonprofit or educational sector

·     3+ years of team management experience, including hiring senior staff 

·     Bachelor’s Degree in Business or relevant field

·     Demonstrated ability to build, supervise, motivate, and retain a highly successful, collaborative team through effective coaching and mentoring.

·     Ability to work closely with a Board to achieve organizational goals, including creating and regularly tracking key performance indicators

·     Successful track record of developing and executing strategies to diversify revenue streams and increase funding

·     Excellent financial management experience

·     Experience creating and leading high-value partnerships with a variety of stakeholders, including members, funders, media, and thought leaders

·     Excellent oral and written communication skills, including public speaking

·     Results-oriented program management experience 




The new CEO must display acumen in board relations, staff leadership, fundraising, external relations, and financial management. A flexible, optimistic, and entrepreneurial outlook is essential. Our ideal candidate brings the following competencies and values:
