A Tribute to Nelson Mandela's Legacy
Share |

Our work with entrepreneurs in the poverty-stricken townships around Cape Town, South Africa began just a few years after Nelson Mandela was released from prison. It was an amazing time, one that occurred because of the incredible tenacity and price paid by so many involved with the struggle against Apartheid. Mandela was the soul of that movement, the one who understood how to use it to transform a nation, build a democracy, and ignite an economy—and do so in a way that brought along everyone, including those who were the oppressors. He taught us that the ability to change the world begins not with hubris, but with humility. He taught us to never compromise on our dreams. He taught us to believe always in ourselves, in one another, and in tomorrow. He led by example. Because of him I came to truly understand how entrepreneurship empowers and transforms.

USASBE joins the world in remembering Nelson Mandela - the Man, the Myth, the Cause, the Lessons. Social justice is at the core of what Mandela taught us. We, as entrepreneurs, will strive to infuse that into our business practices. We, as educators, will strive to infuse that into our students. We, as citizens of this world, will strive to infuse that into our souls.
