Recently I had an opportunity to talk with Professor Johan Wiklund about his upcoming USASBE keynote. Wiklund will be discussing how entrepreneurship can be a vehicle for achieving important life goals and how instructors and researchers of entrepreneurship can assist their students in reaching their aspirations through entrepreneurial endeavors. This may be particularly important for disadvantaged groups in society, such as those with mental disorders.
During our conversation Wiklund also made a very interesting point about millennials: our students face a paradox when it comes to entrepreneurship. On one hand, in comparison to prior generations, many millennials are in search of deeper meaning through work, and entrepreneurship can serve as a conduit for this. On the other hand, many millennials have been raised differently (e.g., overprotected) and may lack resilience, a necessary quality for many entrepreneurs. Want to learn more?
