To disseminate and share information regarding existing interdisciplinary teaching and scholarship at intersections of law and entrepreneurship, and promote related collaborative initiatives in new pedagogy, research and policy formulation and other service among faculty and other interested parties from multiple disciplines.

A member of USASBE in good standing, that has professional interest in the specific field of the Group and wishes to pursue expansion and promotion of the field and personal advancement through knowledge exchange and participation in the mission of the Group, is eligible for membership.

 

 

Annually as an element of the Association’s strategic planning process, the Group is to develop a work plan that outlines goals and objectives for the year. Outlined below are annual goals and objectives adopted by the Group:

1. Disseminate information regarding existing interdisciplinary teaching and scholarship at intersections of law and entrepreneurship and promote growth in both areas.
2. Create widespread access to resource materials on legal issues of particular interest to entrepreneurs and innovators and related discussion platforms.
   
   
3. Increase active involvement of faculty from law schools in USASBE.
   
   
4. Expand awareness and generate further interactions of law schools with cross-campus entrepreneurship programs on their campus or at other nearby institutions.
   
   
5. Facilitate the availability of affordable legal services to entrepreneurs and innovators through networking with law school clinics, bar associations, and other organizations.
   
   
6. Conduct a Law & Entrepreneurship Interest Group pre-conference or conference workshop at each USASBE annual conference and endeavor to have one mid-year conference of the group annually as well.

 Group's goals for current year:

1. Continue to grow Law SIG membership, including by, among other things, taking the same active approach employed successfully by the Law SIG leadership in 2014 in emailing all former Law SIG members who have not renewed their USASBE membership and apprising them of USASBE and Law SIG member benefits, and encouraging them to rejoin USASBE and become active Law SIG members.
   
   
2. Have the above-referenced Communications Committee build a well-functioning communications platform to facilitate sharing of information and materials among Law SIG members, either by working with USASBE IT personnel on a platform through the USASBE website and listservs or through other media, such as LinkedIn.
   
   
3. Renew the offer made by 2014-15 Co-Chair Tony Luppino on the Law SIG’s behalf to collaborate with any and all other SIGs on not just workshops or pre-conferences for the annual USASBE conference, but also on activities throughout the year, such as providing input on “law modules” for certificate programs other SIGs may be exploring.
   
   
4. Aggressively pursue research and writing collaborations at intersections of law, entrepreneurship, and public policy among Law SIG members and with members of other SIGs.
   
   
5. Increase the number of Law SIG members actively involved in teaching and refining law aspects curriculum in USASBE’s existing Certificate Programs (Social Entrepreneurship and Technology Entrepreneurship) and “executive” versions of those programs that may be developed.
   
   
6. Continue the discussions commenced in 2014 of possible merger of the Law SIG with the Public Policy SIG.
