Interest Groups: Public Policy
Group Pages

The Entrepreneurship and Public Policy Special Interest Group is a special interest group organized under the auspices of the Articles of Incorporation of the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE) to promote and encourage the development and advancement of programs and services in the specific entrepreneurship field and to provide a forum for information exchange.

GROUP MISSION

The Entrepreneurship and Public Policy Special Interest Group is dedicated to promoting teaching and research focused on the relationship between public policy initiatives and the level, intensity, and characteristics of entrepreneurship in the economy. The Public Policy SIG aims to be a forum for USASBE members where substantive issues on public policy affecting small business and entrepreneurship can be explored, discussed, and debated from multiple points of view, with an emphasis on how these issues can become part of our teaching, research, and service.

The Public Policy SIG will work to encourage the creation and dissemination of

  1. basic, applied, and pedagogical research which explores the relationship between public policy and economic outcomes; and
  2. practical information, analysis and guidance for academics, policymakers, professional staff, opinion leaders, and market participants at the intersection of entrepreneurship, market activity, and political activity.

An important part of this effort will be

  1. the promotion of collaborative initiatives in new pedagogy, research, policy formulation, and other service among faculty and practitioners from multiple disciplines, and
  2. the identification and creation of professional development activities for USASBE members in the area of public policy entrepreneurship.

Goals and objectives for 2012 are as follows:

  • Raise awareness among all USASBE members and other SIGs, conference attendees, and potential attendees of the Public Policy SIG’s existence, purpose, and activities and engage their interest, cooperation, and collaboration on public policy topics.

  • Establish communication and participation-- with Public Policy SIG members and also through collaboration with members of other SIGs-- to explore and develop areas of common interest, thereby increasing the overall benefit to SIG members and USASBE.

  • Refine Public Policy SIG objectives and post them on the USASBE website, along with other webpage information for the Group.

  • Work closely with the leadership of the Journal of Entrepreneurship and Public Policy to promote the generation of new papers by Public Policy SIG members and also through collaboration with members of other SIGs and all USASBE members.

  • Promote the development and dissemination of working papers, both within the Public Policy SIG membership and also through collaboration with other SIGs and all USASBE members, on topics relating to entrepreneurship and public policy.

  • Help USASBE members integrate policy topics into entrepreneurship teaching.

  • Develop a USASBE 2013 Pillar Session on entrepreneurship and public policy.
