Best Paper Awards
USASBE awards
for best papers are sponsored by Entrepreneurship: Theory and Practice
Journal, The Coleman Foundation, and the Journal of Developmental
Entrepreneurship. The Entrepreneurship Education Division has awards
for Undergraduate and Graduate Model Program, Innovative
Pedagogy and Educator of the Year. The Minority
and Women Division of USASBE has an Entrepreneur of the Year Award. There is also a Best
Doctoral Paper Award. SBI offers awards for the best student field
consulting Case of the Year, Distinguished Empirical Paper and Distinguished
Applied Paper. Information about these and other awards offered

2005 Coleman/Hughes Elevator Grant
On Friday, 14 January 2005 The Coleman Foundation and the John E. and Jeanne T. Hughes Charitable Foundation will provide small schools with the opportunity to compete for grants of up to $5,000 to fund entrepreneurship projects. Members of the boards of both foundations will be present to hear the presentations and award on the spot funding. Presentations will not be allowed to exceed 3 minutes, and must be made by the Project Director. Presentations by students or anyone other than the Project Director will not be allowed. An additional 2 minutes of questions from the board members may be provided as needed.
Pre-registration and application to participate in this session must be received by 5:00 p.m. central time on Friday, December 17, 2004. Grants are limited to small schools, defined as a full-time equivalent student enrollment of no more than 3,000. Enrollment refers to institutional enrollment and includes all schools, colleges, programs of the college or university, both graduate and undergraduate. Registration consists of a completed Registration Form and a narrative project description of no more than 2 pages. A verification of the FTE student enrollment from the registrar, admissions office or other academic officer responsible for the reporting of actual FTE enrollment must accompany the registration materials. This may be in the form of an e-mail directly to the address below, or to the project director and forwarded to Emily Gray. Registration forms are available by clicking here. Completed Registration Forms and project descriptions must be submitted as MS Word document attachments to The Coleman Foundation via e-mail at ebgray@colemanfoundation.org. Receipt of materials will be acknowledged.

2005 Excellence In Entrepreneurship Education Awards
OVERVIEW
The Entrepreneurship Education Division of USASBE will recognize excellence in entrepreneurship education with awards made at the 2005 national meeting in each of the following seven categories:
National Model Undergraduate Entrepreneurship Program
National Model MBA Entrepreneurship Program
National Model Ph.D. Entrepreneurship Program
Outstanding Specialty Entrepreneurship Program
Innovative Entrepreneurship Education Courses
Innovative Pedagogy for Entrepreneurship Education
Entrepreneurship Educator of the Year (see special instructions below)
Self-Nominations are acceptable and encouraged for all categories
NOMINATION AND AWARD PROCESS
The nomination process will take place over the late summer and fall of 2004, with awards being made at the 2005 national meeting. The process includes four phases:
1. Initial nomination submissions
2. Judges review and selection of award candidates/finalists
3. Submission of award candidates/finalist materials
4. Award candidate/finalist presentations, judges' selection, and awards at national conference
1. INITIAL NOMINATION SUBMISSIONS
Initial nominations due date: October 1, 2004
Submit Five copies of all materials to: Robin Anderson (see bottom of the page)
Initial submissions should represent an Executive Summary of the program, course, or pedagogical innovation. Executive Summaries are to be a maximum of 11 pages, and contain the following information:
1. Title page, including:
Name of the individual or school being nominated
Award for which the individual or school is being nominated
Name of the person submitting the nomination
2. Narrative, up to five pages including the following:
Purpose/mission of the nominated program, course, or pedagogy
Primary objectives of the nominated program, course, or pedagogy
Principal students/individuals the nominated program, course, or pedagogy is designed to serve
Abbreviated description of the nominated program, course, or pedagogy
Unique aspects and features of the nominated program, course, or pedagogy
Sources of funding/support for the nominated program, course, or pedagogy
Benefits provided by the nominated program, course, or pedagogy
Outcomes of the nominated program, course, or pedagogy (short-and long-term)
Name, address, phone, and fax of the person who can provide additional materials, if needed.
3. Exhibits, up to five pages of exhibits (charts, diagrams, figures, tables, etc.) as appropriate to more support the narrative.
2. JUDGES REVIEW AND SELECTION OF AWARD CANDIDATES/FINALISTS
Judging and criteria
Two to three award candidates/finalists (excluding Entrepreneurship Educator of the Year) will be selected from among nominees in each category. Selection will be based of the following criteria:
Innovativeness and uniqueness of the nominated program, course, or pedagogy
Quality and effectiveness of the nominated program, course, or pedagogy
Completeness and comprehensiveness of the nominated program, course, or pedagogy
Sustainability (long term) of the nominated program, course, or pedagogy
Transferability of the nominated program, course, or pedagogy to other USASBE members
(tie breaker only)
Award candidate/finalist notification
Award candidate/finalists will be notified in writing and by telephone by November 1, 2004, by a member of the education division.
If the judges' panel determines that no nominee meets the minimum criteria for its award category, the panel reserves the right to advance no award candidate/finalist.
3. SUBMISSION OF AWARD CANDIDATES/FINALIST MATERIALS
Award Candidate/Finalist materials due date: December 1, 2004

Award candidates/finalists are to submit the following materials to be distributed to the judging panel:
1. Revised Executive Summary, including statement of the award being sought and the candidate's qualifications for the award;
2. Supplementary materials, supporting documentation for the Executive Summary;
3. Presentation slides, highlighting the ways in which the candidate satisfies the five USASBE award criteria (Innovativeness and uniqueness; Quality and effectiveness; Completeness and comprehensiveness; Sustainability; Transferability).
4. AWARD CANDIDATE/FINALIST PRESENTATIONS, JUDGES' SELECTION, AND AWARDS AT NATIONAL CONFERENCE
Award candidates/finalists will make a scheduled presentation before a panel of judges at the 2005 national conference. Specific time and location will be provided prior to the conference.
Audio visual needs / availability should be confirmed with USASBE conference coordinator in advance. Winners will be announced and awards presented at the national conference, time and location to be announced.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR
Nominations should be a maximum of 10 pages long (not including vita of nominee) and should document the contributions the educator has made to entrepreneurship education. Nominations due date: October 1, 2004
