Coleman Scholarships Available

  • Scholarships for conference fees and hotel accommodations are available for entrepreneurship educators in the United States who have not previously been a member of USASBE. See the website (www.usasbe.org) for an application or call the conference headquarters for more information.

Small Grant Entrepreneurship Funding: The Three-Minute Elevator Presentations

  • The John E. and Jeanne T. Hughes Charitable Foundation and The Coleman Foundation will conduct a session titled "Small Grant Entrepreneurship Funding: The Three-Minute Elevator Presentation." During this session, small schools with total student enrollment of 3,000 and under are encouraged to present an idea for an entrepreneurship project to board members of both foundations for possible funding. Presentations must be no more than three minutes and must be delivered by the project director. Bring six copies of a short executive summary to distribute to the review panel. No lengthy historical descriptions, only the who, what, when, where, why and budget for the project. Some additional time may be allowed for questions, if necessary. Grants of up to $5,000 will be awarded during the conference.

Best Workshop Awards

Selected workshops will be informed prior to conference that they are finalists and will be judged at the conference. There are three categories of workshops to be judged: entrepreneurship education, family business, and general category.

USASBE Entrepreneurship Education Divisional Awards for 2003

  • The Entrepreneurship Education Division of USASBE will offer Entrepreneurship Education Awards at the 2003 National Meetings in the following seven (7) categories:
    1. Undergraduate Entrepreneurship Education
    2. M.B.A. Entrepreneurship Education
    3. Ph.D. Entrepreneurship Education
    4. Specialty Programs in Entrepreneurship Education
    5. Innovative Entrepreneurship Education Courses
    6. Innovative Pedagogy for Entrepreneurship Education
    7. Outstanding Entrepreneurship Educator of the Year

Self-Nominations are both acceptable and encouraged for all seven (7) categories. Five copies of the relevant Nomination Materials should be sent to The Chair of USASBE's Entrepreneurship Education Division: Dr. William C. Schulz III, Albertus Magnus College, Aquinas Hall, 700 Prospect Street, New Haven, CT, 06511. [203/773-8539 Fon; 203/773-3701; e-Mail: schulz@albertus.edu]. The only Material that needs to be submitted initially is an Executive Summary of the Program, Course, Pedagogical Innovation, or Educator-of-the-Year Entry. Executive Summaries should be no more than 11 pages long, and should contain the information described below. The Deadline for Submission of all Nomination Materials is October 1, 2002. The calendar of subsequent activities is as follows:

  1. Notification of National Finalists November 01, 2002
  2. Submission of Revised Materials December 01, 2002
    [Five copies of Revised Executive Summary plus Five copies of Supplementary Materials]
  3. Presentation of Finalist Materials at USASBE 2003 National Meeting January 2003
  4. Announcement of Award Winners At Final USASBE Luncheon January 2003

All Entrepreneurship Education Award Candidates (Including Self Nominees) must eventually submit three sets of materials: (1) An Executive Summary that describes the Award they are seeking, and their qualifications for that Award; (2) A Set of Supplementary Materials that provides supporting documentation for the Executive Summary; and (3) A Set of Presentation Slides that highlights the ways in which the Candidate satisfies the five USASBE Award Criteria. The Information to be covered in the Executive Summary includes the following:

1. A Title Page that Contains the Following Information:

  • The Name of the Individual or School Being Nominated
  • The Award for Which the Individual or School Is Being Nominated
  • The Name of the Person Submitting the Nomination

2. Up to Five Pages of Text that Describe:

  • The Name of the Nominee
  • The Purpose/Mission of the Nominated Program, Course or Pedagogy
  • The Name, Address, Phone & Fax of a Person Who Can Provide Any Additional Materials Needed
  • The Primary Objectives of the Program, Course, or Pedagogy
  • The Principal Students/Individuals the Program, Course, or Pedagogy Is Designed to Serve
  • An Abbreviated Description of the Program, Course, or Pedagogy
  • Unique Aspects & Features of the Program, Course, or Pedagogy
  • Sources of Funding/Support for the Program, Course, or Pedagogy
  • Program, Course, or Pedagogy Benefits for Its Students
  • Program, Course, or Pedagogy Outcomes (Both Short & Long Term)

3. Up to Five Pages of Exhibits (Charts, Diagrams, Figures, Tables, Etc.)

  • These May Be Used to More Fully Explain or Clarify the Text

All Entries will be judged on the basis of the following five criteria: (1) Entry Innovativeness and Uniqueness; (2) Entry Quality and Effectiveness; (3) Entry Completeness and Comprehensiveness; (4) Entry Sustainability over Time; and [For Tie-Breaking Only] (5) Entry Transferability to other USASBE Members.

Note: USASBE Reserves the Right Not to Grant Any of the Awards Listed Above Should the Judges Decide that No Candidate Meets Historical Award Standards.
