Pre-conference Workshop: Community Development Financing Programs

The Venture Financing SIG is sponsoring a workshop on Thursday, January 19th, which is before the USASBE conference starts in Philly.  Come join us in learning about community development financing programs.  More information is provided below.

Community Development Financing Programs - National, Regional, & Local

Time:  Thursday, January 19th, 8:00 am - 11:30am       Room: Regency C2

 

Purpose: To introduce USASBE members to a category of programs for entrepreneurial financing which is often overlooked in the academic literature that serves large numbers of enterprises annually.  USASBE members that teach entrepreneurial financing will learn about non-traditional options.  All attendees will gain a better understanding of the financing options and the potential for research and collaboration. This will involve a panel discussion of the types of funding sources and who the organizations serve and how, as well as current research within the industry and opportunities for collaboration.  Panelists are leaders in community-based financing.  Depending upon the weather, a short walking tour to visit funded organizations will be included.

 

Topics Include:

  • Introduction to CDFI’s
  • Funding sources and policy environment
  • Statistics and measurement of performance
  • Research topics – now and future
  • Profiles individual organizations
  • Potential mutual opportunities
  • Funded organizations

Venture Financing Learning Journey in Philly (Thursday, January 19th)

Learning Journey - Philadelphia Investment & Innovation Ecosystem

[ Meet at conference registration at 12:45pm for 1pm departure ]
 
This learning journey will take participants on a visit to Drexel University and the University City Science Center. The majority of the program will take place at ic@3401 at 34th & Market Streets in Philadelphia. The program will begin with a tour of ic@3401 and a presentation from their team. The program will continue with a presentation from the DreamIt team who will discuss the Philadelphia innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem. Additional guests will dis-cuss the University City and Drexel University ecosystems that are playing a key role in the revitalization of West Philadelphia. Finally, the program will include a panel discussion featuring Philadelphia-area investors and startup founders who will discuss their experiences from both sides of the table.
