Minority and Women Entrepreneurship
The Minority and Women Division seeks to address issues related to diversity as they impact on entrepreneurship and small business management. Topics relevant to this Division include conceptual and practical applications involving gender and ethnicity, and other social identity groups. As the global business landscape in the 21st century becomes more multicultural and interconnected, the changing face of the entrepreneur influences entrepreneurial processes and content. This division provides a forum for discussion about research, case studies, and real world situations regarding diversity and entrepreneurship.
The Division emphasis includes but is not limited to the following topics:
- Multicultural approaches to research and teaching
- Interdisciplinary approaches to research and teaching
- Technology and women and minority-owned businesses (WMOB)
- E-commerce and WMOB
- Finance and venture capital issues for WMOB
- Historical Documentation of WMOB
- WMOB in international contexts
- Building community-based grass roots
- Rural entrepreneurship
- Public policy regarding WMOB
- Developing and using case studies
Resources
This new section of the Division's web page provides resources submitted by members. Initially, we are publishing resources in two categories: (1) Links to Organizations and (2) Member Research and Publications. Our intent is not to duplicate what is available elsewhere on the USASBE website but to provide a forum for our membership to share resources within the Division that may be of special relevance to our members. Please submit items for this section that you believe will benefit the membership to Cathy Folker, folker@uwp.edu.

Member Research and Publications
Dianne Welsh, Past VP Minority and Women Division, jwelsh@jcu.edu, has edited several volumes that contain selected articles on women and minorities in franchising worldwide, including International Franchising in Emerging Markets: Central and Eastern Europe and South America and International Franchising in Emerging Markets: China, India, and Other Asian Countries. The publisher's press release notes that the books provide informative articles by international authorities and feature state-of-the-art research. They give an overview of each area's legal, political, economic, and social environment and offer case studies of companies already doing business there. The potential that various regions hold for franchisers in specific industries is analyzed. For more information or to purchase the books, call 1-800-248-3248 or visit the CCH Business and Finance Group web site at http://business.cch.com/onlinestore.
