Recognition of outstanding achievement in education, research and advancement of the entrepreneurship discipline, is a major focus of the Association’s mission to promote improvement of knowledge, practices, research, and understanding the phenomenon of entrepreneurship. This objective is fostered annually through the presentation of awards in the areas of:

 

Entrepreneurship Achievement and Advocacy

The following awards are presented during the Association’s conference, held annually in January, to individuals/organizations who have exhibited outstanding achievement in the field of entrepreneurship, and demonstrated strong support and advocacy of entrepreneurial advancement.

Max S. Wortman, Jr. Award for Lifetime Achievement in Entrepreneurship (Past Winners)
Award was instituted on the occasion of the 22nd anniversary of the founding of the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE).  This award is presented in recognition of a lifetime in entrepreneurial achievement that encompasses the ideals of entrepreneurial activity – through new venturing, corporate venturing, or social venturing.  Eligibility extends to both those who have pursued a lifetime of successful venture creation as well as those whose life’s pursuits supported and advocated entrepreneurial ideals.

John E. Hughes Award for Entrepreneurial Advocacy (Past Winners)
Award named after its first recipient John E. Hughes.  This award is presented to an individual or organization that has consistently contributed encouragement; support; physical, intellectual, and/or spiritual resources; time; talent and/or skills; development; and/or financial contribution to further the cause of entrepreneurship.

Corporate Entrepreneur of the Year (Past Winners)
Award recognizes an individual that exemplifies the spirit of entrepreneurship through entrepreneurial achievement and serves as a model of the true entrepreneur through practical application.

Woman/Minority Entrepreneur of the Year (Past Winners)
Award recognizes an individual woman or minority whose actions and achievements, within an entrepreneurial environment, exemplifies the true entrepreneurship and serves as a model to others.

Excellence in Entrepreneurship Education

The mission of the Association is to create the next generation of entrepreneurs through teaching and research in advancement and improvement of knowledge, techniques, and skills in promoting the advancement of entrepreneurial education and research.  To recognize achievement of this mission, the following awards are presented during the annual USASBE conference to those individuals/organizations that have demonstrated excellence in education and research.

USASBE Excellence in Entrepreneurship Education National Awards
A series of awards presented to identify, recognize, celebrate and publicize excellence in entrepreneurship education in all forms and at all levels.  Awards are for exemplary programs that reflect innovation, quality, comprehensiveness, sustainability, transferability, depth of support, and impact.

Awards are presented in the following seven categories:

  • National Model Undergraduate Entrepreneurship Program (Past Winners)
  • National Model MBA Entrepreneurship Program (Past Winners)
  • National Model Ph.D. Entrepreneurship Program (Past Winners)
  • Outstanding Specialty Entrepreneurship Program (Past Winners)
  • Innovative Entrepreneurship Education Courses (Past Winners)
  • Innovative Pedagogy for Entrepreneurship Education (Past Winners)
  • Entrepreneurship Educator of the Year (Past Winners)

Excellence in Entrepreneurship Research, CASE Development and Workshop Development/Presentation

These awards are presented each year by USASBE and sponsoring partners within the Entrepreneurship community, in recognition of outstanding conference paper and case submissions, and workshop presentations within special categories during the Association’s annual conference.

USASBE Best Paper Awards
Best Paper awards are presented to authors and co-authors for the overall best papers in the following categories, presented during the USASBE annual conference.

USASBE Outstanding CASE and Workshop Awards
Outstanding Case awards are presented based on the outstanding case submission and presentation during the USASBE Annual Conference.

Journal of Developmental Entrepreneurship John Jack Award (Past Winners)
The John Jack Award is presented to the overall best paper presented at the USASBE Annual Conference dealing with entrepreneurship by women or minorities or under conditions of adversity.

SBA/Office of Advocacy Best Doctoral Student Paper Award (Past Winners)
The Best Doctoral Student Paper Award is presented to the overall best student paper author or co-authors presented during the USASBE Annual Conference.

Journal of Small Business Management Editor’s Choice Award (Past Winners)
This award is presented to the author or co-authors of the best overall paper presented during the USASBE Annual Conference
